To keep your jewellery shining and beautiful, you need to take proper care of it. And because I am aware that it is not always easy to know the right care and there is a lot of information circulating on the internet that could be more likely to harm your valuables, I have written down some basic steps to follow.
Store jewellery in a box or jewellery box ideally so that they do not touch each other. This prevents unnecessary scratching and loss of gloss. It is also very handy to get a travel jewellery box to safely transport your jewellery on the go. Ideally, the jewellery box should be lined with fine felt, velvet or suede. Prevent scratches by getting a jewellery box with separate compartments for earrings, pockets for necklaces and rolls for rings. It is important to keep pearl jewellery in a breathable box, as it needs to breathe.
Regularly clean them from small dirt, dust and sweat. A soft toothbrush or a soft cloth and warm water with detergent will suffice. The best way to polish gold is with a special liquid for precious metals, which you can find in a regular drugstore.
When cleaning, it is important to pay attention to the individual materials. For example, gold is not recommended to be exposed to chlorine, silver tends to blacken, so it is a good idea to get a special cleaner for it. On the other hand, don’t expose your pearls to any chemistry, the best way to do that is to wear them and give them the attention they need. They love contact with our skin, whose natural oiliness gives them a glow and shine.
If the jewellery is very tarnished and the home care is not enough, just bring it to me and I will be happy to put it back in order.
Put jewellery away during more physical work, such as gardening or cleaning. Be careful even when playing sports, where there could be impact or pressure that could damage the jewellery. Be careful with cleaning agents and other chemicals. Some stones are soft and therefore more susceptible to scratching or etching. Common cosmetic products can also add to the beauty of your jewellery. such as creams, perfumes and hairsprays. Swimming can also harm jewellery, especially in chlorinated pools and the sea, but if you want to be extremely cautious, you should remove it before showering.
