What rings do celebrities choose?

It is said that money does not make the man, but it shows what he is really like. So who among the famous faces came up with a real gem when proposing to their sweethearts? There are countless such cases, but let’s look at engagement rings of such quality that our grandchildren might not have to work from their sale.

For example, one couple with a strong sex appeal looks quite modest at first glance. But when Brad Pitt proposed to Angelina Jolie, he put a clear stone worth around $250,000 on her finger. He designed it himself. He supervised its production himself. Gavin Rossdale, for example, showed the same care for production when he oversaw the making of a ring for Gwen Steffani.

Mary Elizabeth Donaldson, better known as Crown Princess Mary, was proposed to by the Danish heir to the throne, Prince Frederik. He also supervised the production himself, in complete secrecy, and the Brazilian jeweller Mauricio Monteiro had a major part in the creation of the ring. In 2004, the ring in its original form consisted of a square brilliant cut diamond and two rubies on each side in a red and white combination – this was because of the Danish flag. But in 2012, Frederik had the ring altered so that currently the diamond on the ring depicts the couple and the four smaller stones their four children.

Ben Affleck set Jennifer Garner with a 4.5 carat diamond. Unfortunately, this marriage didn’t have a happy ending and Ben has been divorced from Jennifer for a while now, but he still had excellent taste in jewellery, which I’m sure his next partner will notice.

Prince William wanted to preserve the family memory of his mother, Princess Diana, for his Duchess Kate, and so she was given her 19-carat diamond and blue sapphire engagement ring, which Diana received from Prince Charles in 1981.

Actress Salma Hayek was proposed to by her boyfriend Francois Henri Pinault, CEO of luxury PPR, who owns companies such as Gucci and Balenciaga. By comparison, it’s like a Ferrari owner having a car built from the ground up for his fiancée. Salma made no secret of her pleasure at the sight of half the people slowly going blind at the sight of the ring.

One of the most expensive rings ever, however, came from rapper Jay-Z, who put an 18-carat diamond worth $5 million on his fiancée Beyoncé’s finger. Well, honestly: would you say no?
